Welcome — and a few words about first days
Wylari
Dear families,
Welcome to ! We're so glad your child is joining us on
.
First days are a big milestone — and honestly, they're often harder on the grown-ups than on the kids.
A little wobble in the first week is completely normal, even for outgoing children. Being away from you is new,
and new takes practice. Here's what helps, from families who've been through it:
- Talk about what's coming. A simple walk-through of the day — "you'll play, have lunch, take a rest,
and then I'll come get you" — makes the unknown smaller. Answer questions honestly.
- Let them see you excited. Children read your face before your words. If you treat this as a good thing,
they're far more likely to believe it is.
- Build the routine early. A calm evening pack-up and a consistent morning rhythm make school days feel
predictable before they even arrive.
- Send a small piece of home. A family photo or a well-loved lovey can be a bridge on tough mornings —
just label it for us.
- Say where you'll be and when you'll return. "I'm going to work, and I'll pick you up after snack" is
concrete in a way children can hold onto.
- Keep the good-bye short, warm, and honest. One hug, one kiss, out the door. Long good-byes and
"okay, one more minute" raise the temperature instead of lowering it — and slipping out unseen teaches
children to watch the door. A quick, confident good-bye is a kindness, even when it's hard.
However drop-off goes, know this: the tears (theirs or yours!) almost always end within minutes, and we'll
be right there with your child — comforting, distracting, and helping them find their place. You're welcome
to message us mid-morning to hear how it's going; we're happy to tell you.
We can't wait to get to know your child — and your family. Welcome aboard.
Warmly,
