A posted menu does more than answer "what did they eat today?" before it's asked. Planning the week in one sitting is what turns five daily scrambles into one grocery trip — and it's the single easiest way to make meals more varied, because you can see that chicken showed up three times.
- Build a rotation. Write three or four good weeks, then cycle them. Kids don't mind — familiarity is a feature — and your planning time drops to nearly zero.
- On the CACFP food program? Use the three lines per meal to cover your required components (for lunch: milk, a grain, a protein, and two fruits/vegetables). Your sponsor's meal pattern chart maps straight onto this grid, and the posted menu doubles as your record of what was served.
- Fill the allergy line every week, even when nothing changed — "no nuts, Emma: dairy-free" on the same sheet as the food is what keeps a busy substitute safe.
- Post it Friday for the coming week. Parents plan dinners around what you served, and it quietly signals how much thought goes into your program.
